Individual Preparation Youth Ministry

Here are some things you can do to begin to prepare for Youth ministry:

  • Evangelism training. Learn how to share and teach others to share their faith.  Concentrate on not using church words like “walk the aisle,” etc.
  • The basis of your ministry will be building relationships through which you can share your faith. Read one of the books below to help you prepare for sharing through your relationships:

  • Practice leading bible studies/small discussion groups/prayer groups/preaching/leading music/singing solos. Whatever matches your giftedness.
  • Physical fitness. Be in good shape.
  • Spend time with youth at your church and develop relationships. Be a sponsor for their fellowships/activities.
  • Collect resources that can be used with youth like: skits, games, devotionals, music, etc.
  • Spend time with a youth minister collecting resources and talking about issues related to youth.
  • Prepare 4‐5 Bible studies on basic discipleship or youth issues.
  • Begin collecting small gifts that you can give away. Anything with something TN on it is good. Examples: key chains, bookmarks, stickers, pens, pencils and postcards. Local businesses may donate these. Your church or BCM may want to help you collect these items. Also, take pictures of your family, friends, school, etc.
  • Work on your scripture memorization
  • Find ways to involve your home and local church. By asking them to:

Pray for you and those you will work with

Help collect small gifts for you to give away

Ask them to collect the items you need for youth activities

  • You will most likely being staying in a host home. Buy a gift to give your host family.
