Here are some things you can be doing to prepare you for resort ministry:

  • Many of the other employees at a resort will be International students from around the world. In preparation, begin to develop relationship with International students on your campus. Learn about other religions you may come in contact with.
  • Read one of the following books to help you understand other cultures: Foreign to Familiar by Sarah Lanier or Ministering CrossCulturally by Sherwood Lingenfelter.
  • The basis of your ministry will be building relationships through which you can share your faith. Read one of the books below to help you prepare for sharing through your relationships:

Just Walk Across the Room by Bill Hybels

Becoming a Contagious Christian by Bill Hybels

PeppermintFilled Piñatas by Eric Michael Bryant

Questions to all of Your Answers by Roger Olson

  • Do personal visitations on your campus either to start a Bible study, follow up on new people at church/BCM, etc. Or ask a BCM Staff member or Church staff member to take you along when they do evangelist or outreach visits to mentor you on sharing.
  • Prepare 4‐5 Bible studies or devotionals you could use to disciple a new believer.
  • Familiarize yourself with Backyard Bible Club and VBS material. Check with local Baptist Association office and Baptist Bookstore for sample copies. Attend a VBS or BYBC training seminar offered by the local Baptist Association. One online resource for Children’s Material is http://www.missionarlington.org/resources/rainbowexpress/.  Another online resource is www.KidzPlace.org.
  • Work on your scripture memory.
  • Read a good book on Prayer Walking like: Prayer Walking: Praying on Site with Insight by Hawthorn and Kendrick or Walking the Talk by Dan Crawford and Calvin Miller. Or participate in a prayer walk on your campus.
  • Find ways to involve your home and local church. By asking them to:

Pray for you and your people group

Help collect small gifts for you to give to children like stickers, pencils, etc.

Conduct a Prayer Walk at your church

If serving overseas, have them collect small Tennessee gifts like pencils & postcards
