Individual Preparation Relationship Evangelism & Research
Here are some things you can be doing to prepare you for Evangelism & Research:
- Evangelism training. Learn how to share and teach others to share their faith. Practice not using “church” words like “walked the aisle.”
- Read up on the predominant religion in your area to have a basic understanding of their beliefs.
- A good book that will help you understand other cultures is Foreign to Familiar by Sarah Lanier.
- The basis of your ministry will be building relationships through which you can share your faith. Read one of the books below to help you prepare for sharing through your relationships:

- Work on your scripture memory
- Go to the library or get on the Internet and learn as much as possible about the area you will be working in—the people, history, culture, religion, etc.
- Physical fitness. You will be walking and using public transportation. You need to be in good shape.
- Do personal visitation on your campus either to start a Bible study, follow up on new people at church/BCM, etc.
- Prepare 4 sermons, bible studies or devotionals.
- Find ways to involve your home and local church. By asking them to:
Pray for you and your people group Help collect small gifts for you to give to children like stickers, pencils, etc. Conduct a Prayer Walk at your church If serving overseas, have them collect small Tennessee gifts like pencils & postcards.
