Individual Preparation Inner City Ministry

Here are some things you can begin to do to prepare for Inner City Ministry:

  • Evangelism training. Learn how to share and teach others to share their faith.
  • Work with children/youth from low socio‐economic backgrounds.
  • Familiarize yourself with Backyard Bible Club and VBS material. Check with local Baptist Association office and Baptist Bookstore for sample copies. Attend a VBS or BYBC training seminar offered by the local Baptist Association. One online resource for Children’s Material is  ttp://www.missionarlington.org/resources/rainbowexpress/
  • Visit a Mission Center in your area and volunteer for a day.
  • Work on your scripture memorization.
  • Read a good book on Prayer Walking like: Prayer Walking: Praying on Site with Insight by Hawthorn and Kendrick or Walking the Talk by Dan Crawford and Calvin Miller.
  • Physical fitness. Exercise on a regular basis.
  • Spend time at a homeless shelter or inner city ministry. Try to gain an understanding of people and how to minister to them.
  • Have a plan for several youth fellowships: skits, games, devotionals, music (on cd, mp3, iPod, etc.).
  • Prepare 4‐5 Bible studies on basic discipleship.
  • The basis of your ministry will be building relationships through which you can share your faith. Read one of the books below to help you prepare for sharing through your relationships:
